To answer this question, the author applies four scientific methods for understanding diet. First, he explains how nutrients function within the body. Second, he examines how humans evolved in relation to diet over the past seven million years. Third, he considers how the nutrition establishment forms its dietary recommendations. Fourth, he reviews hundreds of scientific studies from the best available sources.
He shows where these methods agree, where they differ, and then resolves those differences. Along the way, he reveals the unifying theory of nutrition.
From this theory, he derives seven premises that help you define your own diet by choosing, combining, and preparing foods and nutrients in certain ways. You can then apply these principals to almost any diet of your choice.By following these premises, you can optimize your diet while better avoiding the chronic diseases of modern life. Better still, you can make eating intuitive and pleasurable by aligning your diet with your biological nature.
Luke Comer is the founder and principal author of the project, “On the Origin of Being: Understanding Scientific Evolution to enhance the Quality of your Life.” He is also the founder of “The First Supper: How evolution designed you to eat,” as well as the CEO of Sapient Stews—which implements the ideas in his writing. He quit high school early to attend Oberlin Collge where he studied broadly. About twenty years ago while pursuing other work, he started all the projects mentioned above, as well as this book, but only started releasing them in the past couple of years. Through all those years, he developed his own way of applying system science to human evolution and well-being.
He lives in Boulder, CO and Cabarete, Dominican Republic and in his spare time pursues outdoor sports and dancing.
